Camden Dillon paints under the name CZD Creation from a small studio in Los Angeles. The work is mostly oil on canvas and panel, built up in thin layers from photographs taken on long walks: harbours at low tide, sunflowers on a kitchen sill, Lake Shore Drive after dark, the faces of family. Before painting came a decade in music and production, and the paintings keep that rhythm. They are made in quiet series, each one a variation on the last, with colour doing the work a melody would. Camden is largely self-taught, learning from museum visits, open studios and a lot of ruined canvases. New work is posted here first. Originals ship from the studio, signed on the back, with a certificate of authenticity.

Artist statement
I paint the minute before something changes: the last light on the water, a room just before someone walks in, a flower a day past its best. Those moments are ordinary and easy to miss, and painting them slowly is my way of paying attention. I work from my own photographs but never copy them. Colour is pushed warmer or colder until the picture feels the way the moment felt, not the way it looked. I want someone standing in front of a piece to slow down for a second, the way I had to while making it.
